John Raleigh Gates (1757-1830) is the ancestor of Benjamin Franklin Gates and brother to Alice Gates. He is the main character of the book, Midnight Ride by Catherine Hapka. The story takes place during the American Revolution. He is the great grandson of Samuel Thomas Gates of who his father is named for. John encounters Samuel Adams and Paul Revere in Midnight Ride. He is also mentioned in the book Uncharted.

John Gates was born on 1757 to his father Thomas Samuel Gates and his mother Constance White. He was in the American Revolution and he encountered Samuel Adams and Paul Revere.
