Biography[]

Before leaving the Peter Sadusky's Home, Peter Sadusky gives Jess a clue into finding a relic related to the lost treasure. It's an envelope which Jess refuses to take, but when she arrives home, she sees that Peter has slipped the envelope in her bag. Addressed to his grandson Liam Sadusky, and Jess is unsure how to proceed. Later, Jess and Tasha talk to Liam, only to find out that there was bad blood between grandfather and grandson. He refuses to take the envelope and doesn't care what may be inside. He has not thought for a moment about Montezuma's Treasure, except that it is a fools errand that cost his father his life. Back at the apartment, Jess opens the letter and sees the hidden clues in a picture of Peter, Liam and his father Jack.[1]

Deciding that there must be more clues at Peter Sadusky's house, Jess decides to make another trip to the deceased FBI agent's home. She searches the bookshelves for clues when she is surprised by Liam. Showing him the picture that was in Peter's letter, Liam however still has no interest in the treasure. At Squeaky Pete's, the same bar that Liam sings at, Jess ends up getting a job there. Later, he gets informed by his boss Matty that he has one more set to sing, and after that he needs to go back to bartending, because the bar is going to switch over to karaoke. Upset at the change he decides that he needs to make a change in his life. So, he approaches the now hired Jess and explains to her that he wants to talk about the treasure. After work, he shows Jess the hidden clue room at Peter's house, and an important unpublished academic paper from the University of Mexico City where Liam's dad got his information from to start the treasure hunt.[2]

Liam inadvertently reveals a secret academic paper that was written by Jess' mother, he also has a video showing her mother discussing the treasure with a group of academics. Later, when Oren and Tasha are present, Jess and Liam play the video, and are amazed to see Jess' mother relate the story of the Mesoamerican treasure. The group then comes to a decision about what to do. They know Billie Pearce is a dangerous person who will stop at nothing to acquire the treasure. Liam assures Jess that he is committed to the treasure now. Meanwhile, clues are needed on where to go next, so the group returns to Liam's house to search through Peter Sadusky's clue room. On the way to Graceland the group devises a plan that is audacious and will need a large amount of luck to help them succeed. Using moths to trick the staff at Graceland, Liam and Ethan pose as exterminators to gain access to the secret room and photograph the prized hidden guitar. The plan works, and while they gain access to the secret room, with photos of the guitar and then escape, it's not enough. It turns out the guitar doesn't hold the clue; instead a gold record in the secret room is what they should have been looking for along. Undeterred, Jess won't quit, and with Liam beside her they re-enter Graceland. Liam takes the opportunity to distract the guests and employees by grabbing a guitar and singing an Elvis Presley song. Despite close calls with security, and the arrival of the real pest control Jess and Liam escape with the clue. Meanwhile, Ethan can spot the chemistry between Liam and Jess, and protective of his friend, but also a bit jealous, he goes to see Liam and tells him to be careful with putting Jess in danger. Liam argues that he is not going to tell a woman what to do, which unintentionally leads Ethan to blurt out Jess' DACA status. Not wanting to let a big issue like Jess' DACA status to stop things, she meets up with Liam, and tells him that she knows that he knows about her DACA status. She explains to Liam that she didn't tell him because when people find out, it changes their perception of her. Liam is fine with everything and informs Jess that he has decoded the scrambled message on the record. It's a recording of Elvis giving a clue to the next piece of the puzzle.[3]

Liam invites Jess and her friends Tasha, Oren and Ethan to Peter's wake, where the group has a chance to scout the clue room for more facts about the treasure. Jess can empathize with Liam about how he is feeling; sharing with him how it was like during her mother's funeral. Unbeknownst to Liam, Jess has been searching for him, but finds Riley Poole in the secret room instead. Hidden away in a back garden, Liam is approached by Peter's former nurse and tells him that his grandfather loved his music. Shocked, because his grandfather was never at one of Liam's performances, the nurse tells him that they found his music online, and that Liam's song about his van was Peter's favorite. Liam plays his grandfather's favorite song, while Tasha is wondering where Jess and Riley are.[4]

While Jess doesn't believe Liam has betrayed them, Tasha isn't so certain. Despite her own skepticism, Jess decides to go with Liam to the governor's mansion to check out Meriwether Lewis' Journal to see if that is where the next clue can be found. While Jess is driving with Ethan, she tells him that Billie has the Elvis Presley clue. She then tells him that someone must have given her the clue, and Ethan immediately suspects Liam as being the mole. Liam is told by the museum employee that he would be able to see it the following evening if he attends the governor's ball. As Liam leaves, without seeing Jess or Ethan, the two overhear him on the phone saying to someone that he needs money wired to him today. Elsewhere, Tasha informs Jess that she hacked into Liam's bank account and reveals that Liam has just had a massive deposit into his bank account. At work, Jess is trying to avoid Liam, but can't seem to get away from him. Liam tells her about his experience at the governor's mansion and that he got them two tickets to the governor's mansion party the next night. Liam wonders what's wrong, and Jess tells him about Billie having the Elvis clue, and that she knows he had fifty thousand dollars wired into his back account today. Liam is hurt and reminds Jess that this is what treasure hunting does to people by making them paranoid and skeptical of people. At Liam's house, Jess goes to apologize for suspecting him of being a mole. Liam is hurt by the fact that she wrote him off. She realizes she should have given him the benefit of the doubt. The two reconcile and forgive each other. Jess then learns that the fifty grand was a loan from Liam's mom to help pay the property taxes on the house. Jess brings Liam to Oren so that he can get his tuxedo altered for the evening event. While Liam and Jess are getting ready for the ball, when Ethan's girlfriend throws a wrench into the evening's plans. Liam then informs the group that they will have an opportunity to look at the journal without prying eyes because the party is also doubling as a surprise birthday party for the governor. In a separate room, Liam and Jess see that the journal is on display, and have a plan to photograph all the pages, and then reset the lock before anyone notices anything. Jess and Ethan get forced to reprise a dance from high school, and they proceed to crush the performance, with the dance floor being cleared for them. Liam is less than pleased to see how well the two get along on the dance floor. The cake comes out, but Liam can't be found anywhere, and Jess heads to the journal room, only to discover him leaving the room with the journal, and a state trooper close behind Jess accusing her of stealing the artifact.[5]

Billie says to Jess that Liam has been working against Jess for financial gain for quite some time, and in fact, he ran off with Meriwether 's journal because Billie paid him to. Billie subsequently reveals that she's in possession of the jade box because Liam sold it to her, supposedly falsely claiming to Jess that it went missing when his father died. Eventually, Ethan goes to check on Jess, and he advises Jess to confront Liam personally, so she goes to his grandfather's house where she finds the clue room trashed and half of the actual clues missing. Later, Ethan goes to the hospital to tell Meena that he really is still in love with Jess and was just lying to himself about it. On his way out, he spots an orderly wheeling around a bunch of clothes that have been taken from patients. Among them is Liam's tuxedo, covered in blood. It turns out Liam is on a ventilator, badly beaten and bruised. When he comes to, Liam tells Ethan that he saw Billie show up at the mansion and tried to leg it with the diary before she could see it, only to get battered by Kacey outside.[6]

Jess learns from Ethan that Liam was framed by Billie, and that he is in the hospital having been beaten up by Kacey. Ethan decides to stay behind, and makes a promise to Jess that he will look out for Liam, and he encourages her to find the treasure. Liam arrives home to see the clue room in shambles. Liam tries to call Jess but has no luck. He learns that his singing act in Graceland has acquired a fan base, and his manager offers him money to play one song, which Liam desperately needs. His new song is all about Jess. Liam then plays to a packed house, and in the audience is his grandfather's nurse. Chasing after the nurse, Liam learns that the nurse actually saved him by pulling him from the river. Confused, Liam wonders why he saved him. The nurse confirms that Peter was murdered, and that Billie has gone too far. Before storming off, the nurse gives Liam back his phone. Still in Baton Rouge, Liam finally hears the messages left by Jess, and tries to call her back, only to get her voicemail. Eventually, he seeks help from his grandfather's nurse.[7]

Liam learns through Myles that Billie has been tracking him through his phone's sim card, and that she had been watching Peter Sadusky for over a decade. Myles concocts a plan with Liam to break into Billie's network to find Jess. Dario thinks he is about to torture a captured Liam, but Myles sedates Billie's hired goon instead. Stealing Dario's phone, Myles searches through the security network to find Jess for Liam. Elsewhere, Jess gets a message showing Liam performing his new song which is about Jess and she is flattered. Liam then learns that Billie had been tracking his family for years and believes that Billie was responsible for his dad's death. In Mexico, Billie and Kacey learn that Dario has opened the Sadusky file. Calling her thug, Billie is surprised to hear Liam answer. They argue, which leaves Myles and Liam only a few minutes to get away. Sadly, Myles is killed, which leaves Liam all alone. Later, Oren is shocked to see Liam at his apartment, and while they are happy to see each other, Liam can't believe that Jess is in Mexico.[8]

Oren and Liam are at the FBI, and have told their side of the story to Agent Ross. Oren is wondering if this was the right decision, while Liam tries to remind him that they had no choice. Liam believes that Ross will find Myles' body and thus prove their story is true. Ross then grimly tells them that Myles' body is missing, as well as the door to the clue room in Peter Sadusky's Home. Later, Ethan and Tasha meet up with Liam and Oren, they fill in the two about Rafael's plan to sneak across the border with Jess, only to wonder what has happened to Jess and Rafael. The group realizes that Billie has Jess, and Liam wants to go after them. Tasha has a plan to track Jess' phone, and the group leaves the police impound lot. On Jess' trail, Oren and Liam look through the last gift given by his grandfather. With Oren's help, Liam deciphers the clues left by Peter Sadusky. In the van, Liam has cracked his grandfather's code and learns that the group Billie is a part of, is not a group of treasure hunters, but treasure destroyers. The leader of this group gets the title of Salazar.[9]

Ethan, Oren, Liam, and Tasha arrive at the boathouse only to discover the group has left, Agent Ross is laying on the ground appearing to be dead, and a large guard with a gun blocks their way. Working out a plan to distract the guard, the group is easily captured by another of Billie's guards. After the scuffle, Oren and Tasha get Ross to the hospital, while Ethan and Liam chase after Billie and Agent Hendricks to save Jess. In a very slow pursuit, Ethan and Liam are forced to push their own boat along, and bond in the process. Liam and Ethan follow behind and enter the fog too, and eventually the two young men find the dead guys from Billie's group and continue their search. To Jess and Rafael's surprise, it is Liam and Ethan that find them and the four of them subsequently work together to lift the cage. Ethan and Liam use elementary school science knowledge of simple machines to lift the cage off of Jess and Rafael with a lever. Free from the cage, Liam reveals to Jess that his grandfather figured out the Hendricks and Billie plan to destroy the treasure. While the group is planning to enter the ancient temple, Ethan decides that he must go meet Tasha, Oren and the cops and lead them to the temple. Thus, it is Rafael, Liam, and Jess who make their way into the aforementioned temple. Inside Jess, Rafael, and Liam find a trap laden floor that has a mysterious puzzle laid out for them which if followed correctly will bring them safely to the treasure room door, without being killed. Remembering the three symbols that the Daughters of Plumed Serpent used to identify themselves, Jess identifies the markers on the floor. Directing Liam and her dad to the proper symbols, Jess knows that the traps won't stop until they step on the three symbols together. Jess must make it to the last step before they are all killed. Successful, the group proceeds onward. Entering the treasure room, Jess, Liam, and Rafael find a room filled with priceless relics and treasure. As it turns out, they have found the great Pan American treasure. Later, Ethan explains to Liam that when he was going for help, he saw Billie and decided to follow her. Soon, Jess and Liam embrace over their success. Sometime later, Liam tells the group that he found a cassette left by his grandfather. While part of it does mention the Pan-American Treasure, it also mentions another treasure, implying a future hunt. Some social media posts of the group are shown, including Liam's performance.[10]
