Mitchell Wilkinson is a descendant of the man who owned the inn where John Wilkes Booth planned the assassination of Abraham Lincoln ALong with Conferate General Albert Pike. He calims he has evidence and shows it that Thomas Gates Ben's Great Great Great Grandfather was involved in the assination of Abraham Lincoln. Wilkinson unveils this information in front of both Ben and Patrick Gates. He is a a graduate of the University of Virgina an international arms dealer and black market antiqiuesties dealer who wants his family to get credit for discoving the Lost city of Gold. HE attacks Patrick Henry Gates at his home to get Ben Franklin Gates attention and to get the first clue. Travels first New York and the Statue of Liberty. When he realizes that it is not the Statue he needed to go he follows Ben Franklin Gates to London. Where after he chase Ben and his friends through the city until the wood carving is thrown into the Thames River.
Back in the states Wilkinson goes to Emily Appleton Gates and threatens her son and precious documents if she does not acompany him to Mount Rushmore. WHen they find the lost city in a cavern in Mount Rushmore he double crosses everyone and threatens the life of Abigal Chase. However in doing so he sets off a trap leaving Wilkinson and Ben Franklin Gates the only to left and only one can get out alive. HE makes a deal with Ben. Wilkinson wants credit for the find. Ben agrees to this and WIlkinson lets Ben go and is drowned in the trap.
