Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch in British history. She sent General Albert Pike a letter in 1864 telling him the last clue to find The Lost City of Gold, Cíbola, hoping he would find it and use the gold to fund the Confederacy during the American Civil War. As she saw a weakened United States would not be much of a threat to the British Empire and this alliance with the South would give the British more access to cotton.
In 1865, after the end of the Civil War, she sent two more missives, again to Albert Pike about the city of gold.
